Not your average applesauce cake, this made-from-scratch beauty is created with chunky applesauce and studded with pecans.
So scrumptious that it only needs a light dusting of powdered sugar to top it off.

As much as I love the convenience of a box cake mix, there’s just something so satisfying about baking a cake from scratch. It gives me such a sense of accomplishment.
This recipe uses chunky applesauce. It gives the applesauce cake a wonderful texture. And the pecans give it a nice crunch as well as flavor.
You really need to make this applesauce cake. The aroma as it bakes is just incredible! No air freshener can ever compare!
So you don’t have to grease and flour your pan separately. Plus, I think they work better for cakes and such.
Set your pan aside and start on the batter. In a medium bowl, combine the flour, apple pie spice (I use my Homemade Apple Pie Spice), salt, baking powder, and baking soda. Use a whisk to do this, it blends much easier.
In a large bowl, beat the butter and sugar together on low speed for about 30 seconds then beat on high speed until they’re light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes more.
Next, beat in the eggs, one at at time…
…until the batter is smooth.
Then beat in the flour and applesauce, alternating as you go; half of the flour, half of the applesauce. Then the rest of the flour and the rest of the applesauce.
Finally, stir in the pecans…
…and pour the batter (it’s pretty thick) into the pan.
Bake it for 50-60 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the middle comes out clean.
Cool it in the pan for 10 minutes.
Then cool it on a wire rack for 1 1/2-2 hours or until it’s completely cool.
And dust it with the powdered sugar. If it’s even the slightest bit warm, the powdered sugar will melt into it.
It’s perfect on its own, but I like it with a dollop of whipped topping, a pinch of apple pie spice, and a few extra chopped pecans.
